The inside of the house is rather dark, which adds to the overall sadness we witness in the characters. Of course this is not the case, and we see how deeply saddened the appliances are when their dreams are shattered, especially Blanky who cries and wails as he misses his master so much. On a couple of occasions they are led to believe that their master is coming home, hearing the door or seeing a car coming toward the house. It soon becomes apparent that the appliances have been left there by someone, a little boy who they call ‘master’. It is interesting to note that each character is the opposite in personality to the purpose they serve.
